LOCAL GRADE 12 GRADUATES SOUGHT TO SUPPORT 1-6-6 INTRODUCTION

 The introduction of the new education reform structure will see the Elementary Schools, gradually shrinking until they are phased out completely. The change has already began in other Districts of Central Province, at a very slow pace and is yet to pick up pace and momentum. The reason being that, most schools lack infrastructure to accommodate these changes. [ Fig 1. Comparison of OBE and SBE reform structure] While the Province is slowly adopting these changes, we are appealing to the community, especially to those Students who have completed Grade 12 education - to express their interest to take up early childhood teaching. Sooner or later, the Elementary School concept will be phased out and replaced with the Early childhood Education. We seriously need teachers, especially early childhood teachers to teach Pre-Schoolers before the enter into the Primary School for their basic Education training from Grades 1 - 6. LEM PHONICS TRAINER WORRIES ABOUT PHONICS USE AT ELEMENTARY SCHOOL

Kerea Primary School Grade 3 teacher Mrs. Rosemary Sailen Osese is concerned about the lack of Phonics teaching carried out at it's feeder elementary schools. This year 2023, upon enrollment, the teacher recorded a massive enrollment of 88 students - all new intakes graduating from the only elementary school, Kerea Elementary School. While teaching in the first 2 - 3 weeks into term one (1), she identified a serious problem in these students. The students lack basic phoneme awareness in their elementary stages (EP, E1 & E2). This made it quite difficult to teach the Students in English. "One can easily tell that these poor children weren't drilled their Phonics properly, having them struggling to sound letters and words properly", she pointed out! "Again, it boils down to whoever elementary teacher was responsible for their early stages of learning." She stressed! NO DESK FOR STUDENTS TO WRITE ON

 60+ Grade four (4) Students attending Kerea Primary School had to take down notes while sitting on the floor. This had been an ongoing issue for the school since it's resumption, on the 23rd of January 2023. Grade 4B students taking notes whilst sitting on the floor of their classroom. The Head Teacher Mr. Bugave Borana added that this year's Government Subsidy is paid only for the first quarter and the second and third quarter payment's are yet to be made. Because of the little money we have in our school operating account, we cannot quickly construct desk for our students or buy them new ones just yet. He said, they have other areas that need money to be prioritized while the Govt pay in the other half of the Subsidy payment. Kerea Primary School is approximately 29 years old since it's establishment in the year 1994. HIRI-KOIARI MP KEITH IDUHU RUB SHOULDERS WITH STUDENTS FROM KEREA PRIMARY SCHOOL

 On Thursday October 5th 2023, Students from a rural school in the newly established Hiri-Koiari District of Central Province, met and talked to their Open Member. Hon. Keith Iduhi (member for Hiri-Koiari) while addressing the students and teacher, Mr. Towana Bamuke, expressed his delight in seeing the Students coming around to witness the Parliament Live debate. The 26 students are from Kerea Primary School, who are doing their grade eight(8) this year 2023. The visit to the Parliament House was planned as part of the class excursion. On farewelling the Students and teacher, he (MP Keith Iduhu) made a commitment to sponsor food & rations to support this year's Grade 8 farewell mass or dinner.
